Abstract Traditionally, submarine hydrodynamic design has focussed mainly on requirements regarding operational range, powering performance and manoeuvring ability for deeply submerged conditions. To improve the effectiveness of boat, attention is also paid to operating near or at surface fortunately, computational tools experimental methods are available analyse submarines these advance hydrodynamics knowledge tools, DMO MARIN have conducted a wide variety bi-lateral collaborative studies using potential viscous flow experiments several hull forms. In this article, examples presented development use during assessment process future submarines. These range from numerical into at-surface periscope-depth resistance powering, manoeuvring, high-fidelity around boat straight flight motions, wakes surface-piercing masts, depth keeping under waves.
